‘Taipei’ - The piece that went global…
The breakthrough piece that changed everything…
The piece that changed everything…
In 2020, I was commissioned to paint a cityscape as a birthday gift for a work colleague’s Wife. She was Taiwanese, and he wanted to create a painting that captured the essence of her home town, and the memories of their trips there together.
We collated a bunch of ideas for the painting and settled on a street view that combined specific examples of their favourite and significant places that reminded them of the city of Taipei.
I painted this piece with a reasonably limited palette of acrylic colours, focusing on the deep blue atmospheric sky, lit up in the glow of Taipei 101, and the bold neon colours of the signage for the shops and restaurants.
I had no idea writing Asian script would be so much fun!!
Once complete, I handed the painting over to a very happy client, and they posted a testimonial to a Facebook page dedicated to Taiwanese living in the UK.
The response was insane.
So much love was sent my way for the connections and adoration people had with this artwork.
I have now since sent art prints all over the world of this piece 🤯
I have sent prints to over 26 States in America… Including; 8 times to California, 7 times to Washington, multiple times to Texas, Las Vegas, Idaho, Chicago, and Pensylvania (that’s not even all of them 😆)
I have sent prints to Taipei, Israel, Amsterdam, France, Germany, Australia, Finland, Canada and more
There are people on the other side of the world with my Artwork in their homes… I actually can’t believe it 🥹
I decided to launch this artwork as a limited edition - edition size 500. When I chose 500 I literally thought to myself, I will never sell that many 🤣
As of last week, I have sold just over 200 prints.
Nearly half of the 500 that I never believed I would sell.
Since then, I have created another 3 paintings in a very similar style and have fallen in love with every single one: “Narai Juku”, “Delmonico’s” and “Sunset's Embrace in Kyoto”.
One day I would love to go travelling and see these painting locations in person.
I would love to start a whole series dedicated to capturing the essence of a place and time, and continue to share my art with people around the world who have their own fond memories and stories connecting them to these beautiful places.
Do you want to hear some of the amazing words people have said about my Taipei painting? You didn’t ask, but I want to share them anyway 😆
“This is truly a beautiful painting. It accurately captures the atmosphere of my hometown Taipei.” - Dandrich, California, USA
“Good night from Taipei and thank you a lot for shipping the posters. The posters are really beautiful and I got mine framed. Another friend of mine saw your poster at my place. She might order one from you too.” - Agnieszka, Taipei, Taiwan
“I ordered one of your prints of Taipei and it arrived today and I just want to say that it's so beautiful! My Mum's Taiwanese so I have spent so many summers in Taiwan and you've just captured so much stuff I love about it in one painting. The Din Tai Fung touch just tops it off!” - Rachel, London, UK
“This is an amazing picture seriously and it gives me such strong flashbacks and chills” - Eytan, Israel
I absolutely am telling the world where I have sent my work with 100% no shame whatsoever - I’m proud of my little viral piece!
The impact this painting has had on my confidence in my ability to be an artist is tenfold.
When I am feeling flat and questioning myself, I often remind myself of this achievement. My boyfriend even made me an interactive map where I can pin all the places around the world that this piece has been collected in - the little things 🥰
If you’re reading this, and you were one of these sales, thank you so much for supporting me 🧡
Here she is; my bestselling artwork - ‘Taipei’ 🇹🇼
